CM7 Android Alpha on HP touchpad.

I know there are a few instructions out there but I had to do some digging to get it done the right way, so I’m putting this together in the hopes of making it easier for others to try. When you’re done with this tutorial you’ll have a touchpad that duel boots CM7 Alpha Android and WebOS. None of your WebOS software/data will be touched during this process, and best of all, you’ll have access to the google Market (most instructions out there don’t include that part)

The original process was released by the Cyanogenmod team (http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?4011-Discussion-CyanogenMod-team-Touchpad-port) Complete respect to them. They built it, I just followed instructions :)

Also all the details and links I used were found on the pages of the XDA forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301202) Shout out to them. Always great instructions and conversations there. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULY AND COMPLETELY BEFORE ATTEMPTING. DON’T COME BITCHING IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE AND SCREW UP YOUR TOUCHPAD :-P

What you’ll need:

novacom drivers installed: (you should have this already installed if you’ve been playing with your touchpad (IE: over clocking and speeding it up) If you don’t know what I’m talking about, please Google it ;-)

1. connect the touchpad to your PC and load it as a USB drive. Create a folder called cminstall and place the CM7 rom, Google Apps, and the mboot zip files in it

2. shut down your touchpad

3. Turn it back on while holding the volume-up button, a usb icon will appear

4. connect it back to your computer

5. Locate the novacom folder on your PC (mine was C:\Program Files\Palm, Inc\novacom) and place the ACMEInstaller in that directory.

6. Open a cmd session with elevated privileges and browse to the novacom folder. Type the following command: boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller

This will reboot the touchpad into a linux session and resize a few partitions within the touchpad to make space for the android install. It will then install everything you placed in the cminstall folder (Make sure you haven’t filled your touchpad’s space with crap) before trying this; if there’s no space to shave, the process won’t work.

7. This shouldn’t take more than 15 to 30 minutes depending on what size touchpad you have. When it’s done you’ll be able to select WebOS or CM7 when you turn the Touchpad on. Also you should have the Google Market installed in CM7.

The idea is that whatever is placed in the cminstall folder will get installed when you run the Acmeinstaller command. I found this out after I’d gone through the hard way J

*BUT If that’s not the case and you still don’t see the google market, follow this:

a. boot back into WebOS and connect it back to your PC as a USB drive.

b. you’ll see folder called android; place the google apps zip in that folder.

c. unzip the Clockwork Recovery file. Use 7-Zip if you don’t have something to unzip with. In there you’ll find a file called uImage.ClockworkMod. Place that file where you placed the ACMEInstaller from step 5.

d. Now follow steps 2, 3, 4 and 6 but instead of typing “ACMEInstaller” type “uImage.ClockworkMod”

You’ll see that the touchpad will boot into the Clockwork recovery screen that Android rooters know all too well. Choose to “install zip file from SD” and navigate to the Android folder where you placed the google apps file. Now select to install it and confirm. Once complete go back to the Android boot to find the Market place ready for use.

I hope this helps: I know there’s a lot here but it’s the easiest way to get this done. And believe me when it say, it’s pretty worth it. ENJOY
